MensajeTema: Dragon 1/72 Stug III Ausf.G/early   Sáb 07 Jun 2008, 2:31 am

Hola,

Well, this is the last thing I need, another project. I have wanted to work on this since I picked it up earlier this year. The level of detail is amazing. I will be building it right out of the box, no mods. So it should go fast. We'll see.

So it begins,

I made a jig to help keep all the wheels pointed in the same direction,

I used strip to keep the return rollers in line as well,

All the rest of the running gear,

I am looking forward to a quick, no fuss build. So far, so good. sun

Cheers,
John

MensajeTema: Lil' Stug   Sáb 07 Jun 2008, 11:51 am

Hi Rene,

Thank you Basketball my friend
The little dragon Stug is really very detailed. I am amazed by how nice it is. But the running gear fit is a little sloppy. So I built the jigs you see here. I plan on building a few more of these so I will add it to my "tools".

The next one will get figures, and I have seen one of these that had a scratch built interior added. Fun.

Cheers,
John

MensajeTema: out of box   Lun 09 Jun 2008, 2:03 am

Hi Rafael,

Thank you Basketball my friend.

I am not sure how many a year. Last year I think I only finished two.
But I started about six that are in various stages........I hope to get more than two done this year!
But yes this one will be mostly out of the box, I did fix the lift hooks on the sides of the air boxes. They are molded upside down. And I think I am going to flip the ends of the fenders up, as would be seen in winter. But I am not going to do too much, this is supposed to be a "quickie"

John

MensajeTema: Stug. Part II   Lun 09 Jun 2008, 2:23 am

Hola,

More work done on the stug. It is enjoyable to work on, but the parts fit is a little sloppy, so care must be taken.

The crew compartment,

This is nicely detailed, there is even some interior detail, mostly on the hatches, but the Cupola has detail inside as well as the drivers vision block. the big flat grey thing is there to block off the ventilator that fell into the carpet, never too be seen again!

Photo etch parts are included. They are very nicely done, and add to the look of the model.

The underside is well detailed, and looks very complete. I have stayed away from reference books on this one. They make me want to start scratch building Smile

Even the undersides of the fenders have detail!

Molded on tools affraid OK, they are not that bad

All the upper hull set in place.

There is still a lot to do. I need to fix the molded on loops on the hull side......

Cheers,
John

MensajeTema: Tools   Vie 13 Jun 2008, 3:53 am

Hi Rene,

Yeah I think figures in 1/72 would be cool. I used to be pretty good at figure painting, but I am out of practice. But I want to try again.

The Stug interior is just an idea right now study The Stug would be a good choice though, big hatches and a relatively simple interior.

The tools are the only thing that lets this kit down. But it is only the ones on the fenders. All the rest are separate.

MensajeTema: The end of Box Stock.   Vie 13 Jun 2008, 4:18 am

Hola,

Time for Tracks! The kit tracks are not bad for rubber. And who would want to build them up link by link at this scale! affraid

the DS material glues very well and they end up being strong and flexible, which helps for this next step. Getting some sag.

I made another Jig, this time to force the tracks into the shape (sag) I wanted

This will only work with rubber tracks, of coarse, but it actually worked pretty well.

I used liquid (Tenax) to glue the tracks to the return rollers, which held the shape I wanted. I had to go back and re-do one that did not quite stay where I wanted. Overall it worked pretty good sun

More detail added.

And now we are no longer box stock........... I had to fix this loop. The molded on one just looked awful Rolling Eyes Oh well. I am sure you guys knew it would happen lol!

last but not least, the gun is test fit. The barrel is slide molded in one piece and is very nice. Just a little bit of sanding to get ride of the mold seam and we are good to go. Seven parts make up this assembly, and it looks just right.

That's all for now.

Cheers,
John

MensajeTema: More progress   Dom 29 Jun 2008, 12:18 am

Hola friends,

Well here we are again. As you will see I have joined the upper and lower hulls.

Overall fit is not bad, except for a few areas that need a little help. I needed to use a little filler at the side of the sponsons.

There is also a big gap at the front fenders........

So, out came the reference books and I found the solution for that problem study

There are a couple of brackets here that the kit does not supply (?) Easy enough to make, so it's no big deal.

Also there are gaps on either side of the Glacis applique armor. There should be a little space here, as this is a bolted on piece, but the gaps were much too large to let get by.

Styrene strip to the rescue once again! sun

I also added a little damage to spice things up a bit.......

And last but not least, the Main Gun.

Okay,
there are still a few things to add but we are almost there! And not too much scratch building Evil or Very Mad

Stay tuned for paint!

Dese Duro,

John

Hello John... cheers cheers cheers

I see the very good work and I didn't think that the dragon scale model had these flaws, but I eat that they are easy to repair...
Very good, rather... excellent... I continue in first line to see their progress.....

Cheers
