Nice job John!! Very clean indeed. What about the barrel? It´s an aftermarket item or it´s a primer grey color? And the tracks? Misteryy...I read in a Zaloga´s review that the kit did´nt come with the AA machine gun (The Dushka??) and that is a shame and a very extrange thing because the Tamiyas T-55 already brings one! Congratulations I can´t whait to see your JS-2 painted and weathered my friend!! clown ala sun

Hola Juan,

Thank you Basketball My friend for the kind words. The barrel is the kit part with grey primer as you thought. The tracks also are from the kit, but the look like the same color as ModelKasten....... Also you are correct that there is no DShK heavy machine gun in the kit. In the case of the tank I am modeling it is OK, as it did not have one. It would have been nice if it had been included, though. I have started painting so you should see Big Joe finished soon! pirat

Cheers,
John

MensajeTema: Straps   Sáb 17 Mayo 2008, 1:20 am

Hola Sergio,

Thank you Basketball my friend.

Yes, it's true, I still like 1/35 modelling....But don't tell anyone. Evil or Very Mad
The tracks and the gun barrel are the parts included in the kit. The straps are scratch built. The kit parts are simplified, there is no way to do this correctly with injection molded parts. The Zaloga article Juan mentioned points this out as well. So I decided to fix them.

The following photos show the scratch built mods to the kits fuel tanks/mounts SBS. sun

First I made the brackets,

Straps came next,

The ends on the straps fit into the brackets just like the real thing,

New weld bead on the tank. There was not really anything wrong with the kit weld, but I needed to replace it when I removed the molded on strap.

Each tank strap has a nut fitted, just like the real thing....... That took forever but it looks cool now so I am happy with the time spent.

Nuts on both ends now.

New tie down for the rear cable turn buckles. Handles on the ends of the fuel tanks are made from left over P/E frames.

Photos of some JS-2's without fuel tanks show the straps left in place but wrapped around the mounts to keep them out of the way.

I even left one nut sitting on the fender

That's all for now, I can not show you too much more yet, but after the review is posted it should be OK. Battlestar Galactica is on now, so I gotta go Smile

Let me know what you think,

Dese Duro,

John

John.......... I don´t envy you for that scratch man Rolling Eyes bom , seriously very nice work on the straps (workable?????), welds, nut sitting alone ()...and now the paint job, looks like we´re going to have a winner here.

MensajeTema: Scratchmadness!!   Lun 19 Mayo 2008, 10:30 pm

Hi Rene,

Thank you for your kind words Basketball I am glad you like it. Mad

Actually, the only hard part about the straps was getting the tiny nuts to go on. Neutral And yes they are sort of "workable" So I could have added the fuel tanks later. I enjoy this kind of work and it is easier than P/E Evil or Very Mad

Cheers,
John

John, very nice scratch built work on the fuel strap holders, the nut on fender, the welds. Excellent build. Are you building this for a article publication?

I'll be watching your build. Thanks for sharing your build. Hope you'll continue posting updates.

Hi Julian,

Thank you Basketball my friend.

The tank is for the IPMS/USA website. It is a review kit and I should have built it "out of the box"........ But it deserves to be beat up sun That's how these tanks looked, and I was given permission to do that. It really is a wonderful kit. I already have another in the stash. cheers
I will be sneaking a few more photos in here, so stay tuned gruñon

Cheers,
John
