MensajeTema: More! Scratch!   Mar 09 Oct 2007, 2:38 am

Panas,

I have returned! Work was killing me last week and delayed forward progress but I am here for another installment of the Crusader sun

So, the back is done.....And it is not quite as sexy as Andres's Tiger so I will not compare it to J-Lo's behind Razz

Work starts at the front now. I am delaying the Turret to see how much time I have. I want it open which means I need to add some detail and a figure, but there may not be time. We'll see.

First I had to fill the holes for the kit light guards.

Then, while those dry it's on to the spare track carrier. The spare track is held in place by rods passed thru the frame mounted on the right front fender. There is no way Tamiya could have provided these rods in styrene, but they need to be there. So first I drilled out the tracks where the rods would pass thru. I used brass wire for the rods and used them to help with alignment while I drilled.......

Next, the wire was sized to fit the framework, as none of my drill bits were long enough to actually do this. I ended up only using one set of spare tracks so the rods would be exposed. With both sets it was not very noticeable.

Then I added the bolt detail......I actually tried to make wing nuts for the other end but after several tries I decide it was not worth the time it would take to get it right.....

The drivers armored cover is next. No modifications here as it has all the required detail is molded in. I did have to add a bit of styrene strip at the back to get a good tight fit.

One of the features of the MK.I's that I really like is the small auxillary Turret. Photos show that it was cast and needed the apropriate texture. I masked off the hatch, then applied a mix of Mr. Surfacer 1000 and Tenax liguid cement to get a rough surface.

This was also applied to the gun mount and front cover (Mantlet?) I then added more of the obligatory rivets........

I also drilled out the Gun Barrel, and the front of the counterweight.

And there it is

Well, That's all for now. A few items still need to be added, but I made quite a bit of progress so I am happy pena

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,
John

MensajeTema: Figures!   Mar 09 Oct 2007, 2:53 am

Andres,

I did see the Alpine figures you posted. I want some!!! they look great, and will be a challenge to paint well.

Here are a few I will be painting at some point,

First is a 1/32 figure of Major George Preddy, sculpted by John Rosengrant for Eagle Editions. It is really nice. Rosengrant is the best I have seen at sculpting specific persons.

My photos do not do this model justice. it just looks so much like the photos I have seen of Major Preddy. Now I need a 1/32 Mustang..........

Next I have a Ma.K Girl that will be used with one of my S.A.F.S.'s, maybe the A8/R8........

Another very nice sculpt, and a really great casting. Even the bottom of her boots have detail!

That's all folk's

Cheers,
John

MensajeTema: Front Mission   Jue 11 Oct 2007, 4:49 am

Panas,

The front is done! Here's how I did it..........

Making the headlight guards was a pain in the Butt. The result is worth the work, I think.

First I bent a piece of .020 brass into a half loop. Then I worked it until I had the shape I wanted. Next I traced it on the desk, to use as a guide. This helps a lot, but there is still some test fitting and adjusting on the other three.

Once I was happy with the shape on all four, they were glued on. Previously I had added small bit of styrene at the lower attachment. This was to help make the flattened area where the bolt head will go. Also this filled in the small notches where the kit part would have fit.

Next I added the bolt heads and the tabs that hold the guards down on the upper Glacis plate. A little primer was flowed in around the holes to help hide them and its ready for paint.

Last I added the tiny marker lights to the front fender brackets.

And the front is done!! On to the Turret!!

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,
John

MensajeTema: Turret time   Jue 11 Oct 2007, 5:02 am

Hola Panas,

Time to start the Turret.......Yes, I know time is running out. Get on with it, already pena

First I masked off the Mantlet, for the addition of texture.

To apply texture I use a Mixture of Mr. Surfacer 1000 and Tenax liquid cement. Mix it about 30% primer to 70% liquid cement. This is what works for me, You may find a differant mix works better. And as always, test on a scrap part before attacking your masterpiece. And use good ventilation, this stuff is nasty!

I use an old brush with the bristles cut down. Apply a small amount, let it set a moment then stiple the surface until you get the desired effect. You can go over the same area several times to build up the texture you want.

One step closer! Stay tuned.......

Cheers,
John

MensajeTema: Oh, no...........   Dom 14 Oct 2007, 8:07 pm

Panas,

" Time is the fire in which we all burn"

My friends, it is apparent that I will not finish on time. I saw this coming and decided not to rush and compromise my vision for this build. I am sorry and I hope you understand.

I will continue the build, and continue to post here, or somewhere else at RYC so that you can see the finished product.

I would like to congratulate all those who did finish on time. A job well done! There has been many fine and inspirational works here and I am glad to have been part of it.

I would also like to thank all of you who have been following my build and I hope you will continue. And of coarse, feel free to write me at my e-mail address: jhnymnemonik@aol.com

Cheers,
John

MensajeTema: Progress   Jue 10 Ene 2008, 1:29 pm

Greetings and Salutations friends,
Happy New Year!

Crusader Progress, albeit at a glacial pace! But progress still! You will see this model finished this year.
Since I missed the end of the contest I have decided to add an interior to the turret. The work so far,

Also I added the large slot head screw that is on the inner part of the mantlet. I am not sure what it is there for, but it is very noticeable.

Cheers,
John
